How to switch from a communal time clock to a contactless time clock

The hourly workforce is starting to get back to work and workplaces are reopening. More hours are being worked, which means more people are clocking in and getting shift done. Unfortunately, the process of getting back to work doesn’t fully support new norms.

Social distancing is here to stay—at least for a while—and workplaces need to rethink processes that unnecessarily put a lot of employees in the same physical space at the same time, or require employees to physically interact with the same devices multiple times a day.

Removing communal devices

In most hourly workplaces, the single most communal device that every single employee physically interacts with every day is the time clock. It’s a breeding ground for spreading germs and contagions.

Workplaces that don’t change the way their team clocks in/out will be putting the health of employees and customers at risk. The good news is that the time clock is one of the easiest things to make contactless while still maintaining a way for employees to clock in and out of shifts.

How to switch to a mobile time clock

The fastest way to eliminate a centralized time clock is to switch to a mobile time clock app that your employees install on their phones. A mobile time clock allows employees to clock in and out from their personal device, and uses geofencing to ensure employees are clocking in and out from a specific location or job site.

Putting a personal time clock in the pockets of every employee eliminates the possibility of spreading contagions from a single device, and eliminates the need for employees to congregate in the same physical space when they get to work, punching out for lunch, or when they are leaving.
